Just 15 seconds to act – that’s the excitement of Speed Poker. The Poker Channel is to stage the World Speed Poker Open (WSPO) with leading players from around the world competing for a prize pool of £144,000. It will be the third major tournament on the Poker Channel, launched in March as the world’s first television channel dedicated to poker, and the heats will be held in Central London from 14–27 September.
The tension and excitement generated by Speed Poker pressures will be caught on camera and broadcast Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday starting 20 September with repeats on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There will be 13 90-minute programmes. The World Cup of Poker televised last month on the Poker Channel attracted over one million viewers. Crispin Nieboer, CEO and Founder of the channel, comments, “Speed Poker brings a different level of pace and energy to the game, which captures more of the online style of play, whilst retaining the glamour and excitement of major tournament action.”
The WSPO has no stoppages in play as a second dealer shuffles a second pack of cards while the first is in play, which means up to 40 hands per half hour instead of the normal 10 to 15 hands. Information on qualifying for the competition can be obtained from the Poker Channel. After a fast and furious tournament the winner will walk away with £50,000, a prize well worth chasing.
