Casino in Puerto de la Cruz to be relocated

TENERIFE’S CASINO TAORO

The second largest tourist city on the island of Tenerife is Puerto de la Cruz on the northwest coast and, unlike the resorts of the south, the accommodation is mostly hotels and not apartment complexes. The spa city became popular in the late 1800s and the Hotel Casino Taoro was built then, in the park of the same name. In a recent press release it was announced that a government commission would study and draw up conditions to turn the hotel into a luxury 4- or 5-star hotel development under Tenerife’s Interior Planning Ordinance.

Yesterday the regional government approved the setting up of the multi-party commission and gave them four months to make a presentation outlining the characteristics of the Taoro development and terms for granting the concession to administrate the building. The local governor stated that the future Hotel Taoro would be converted from the now elderly edifice into a luxury seaside hotel with over 50 rooms and, preferably, five stars.

The casino at present at the Hotel Taoro will be relocated in mid 2006 to the Costa Martianez complex a few kilometres away. The complex is a much-admired tourist destination on the coast with seven swimming pools, three for children. It is anticipated that the new location for the casino will greatly enhance its revenue.
