“Tax revenue should continue to grow throughout 2011”

Table game revenue increases in December

Revenue figures for table games play in December 2010 show continued growth in Pennsylvania’s new table game sector of the Commonwealth’s legalized casino industry. Table games produced gross revenue of just over US$44 million returning to Commonwealth citizens US$7,052,855 in tax revenue after applying the 16% tax rate (14% to the Commonwealth’s General Fund and 2% to the local host county and municipality). That compares to US$38,520,402 in gross revenue and US$6,163,264 in tax revenue during November 2010, a month-over-month increase of 14.4%.

Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem made gross revenue of US$6,830,318 from its 91 gaming tables, marginally above Parx Casino’s US$6,775,955 from its 105 gaming tables. Harrah’s Chester Casino and Racetrack came third, making US$6,048,587 from 123 gaming tables – the largest number at any one facility in Pennsylvania. Presque Isle Downs and Casino produced the least table game revenue of the ten casinos – US$1,551,579 from 48 gaming tables. The recently opened SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia has 42 gaming tables and achieved gross revenue of US$5,632,497, placing it fourth on the list.

Slots gross revenue for December was US$174,772,637.06, an increase of nearly 13% on December 2009 although SugarHouse Casino was not operating then. The average number of operating slot machines operating daily at these facilities was 26,907 in December 2010 and 24,754 in December 2009. PGCB Executive Director Kevin O’Toole commented, “For the fourth year in a row Pennsylvania saw an increase in revenue from legalized casino gaming and, with the popularity of tables games, tax revenue should continue to grow throughout 2011.” (E-01.20.11)
