Scientific Games has been awarded a contract to provide technical support, hardware and consulting services to Apuestas Internacionales SA, a subsidiary of Mexico's Grupo Televisa, S.A. in connection with its number draw-based and related games. The contract has an initial term of eight years plus an option for a two-year extension. Scientific Games will be compensated based on percentage of revenue derived by Apuestas Internacionales SA. The operation is expected to launch during the first half of 2006.
Lorne Weil, Chairman and CEO of Scientific Games said: "We are especially pleased to start this operation with Apuestas Internacionales in Mexico, where we look forward to being as successful as with our customers in the United States." Apuestas Internacionales recently obtained a permit from the Secretaria de Gobernacion, or Mexican Ministry of the Interior, to operate sport books and number draws, including the establishment of 65 betting locations throughout Mexico. Reports from Televisa indicate that the Mexican group will invest US$70 million in their gaming properties in an effort to cut themselves a share of the increasing gambling pie in that country.
