GAMBLING COMMISSION 2007/2008 FIGURES

The Gambling Industry Statistics 2007/2008 published by the Gambling Commission show that American Roulette remains by far the most popular game at British casinos, with the drop of nearly £2,196 million representing about half of total drop. Blackjack follows at £794.3 million, Electronic Roulette at £702.2 million and Punto Banco at almost £368.3 million. These four games and Craps showed a slight increase on 2006/2007 figures but Three Card Poker, Casino Stud Poker and Big Six/Sic Bo all declined in popularity.

Although drop has increased slightly, the total house win and the win percentage are significantly reduced from the previous year except in Scotland. House win in London fell to 14.4% from 16.8% the previous year. At present there are 144 casinos operating in Great Britain and Stanley/Genting is the largest operator with 46 casinos. This company has by far the most casinos in both the Midlands and the North West. 12 casinos are still in the hands of individual operators.

There were over 16 million visits to casinos in Britain between April 2007 and March 2008, an increase of 6.6% over the previous year. Casino attendance is highest in the North, around 4.75 million visits, and lowest in Scotland with 1.36 million visits. In 2007/2008 all regions showed a small increase in visitors from the previous year, totalling just over 16.2 million. Four new casino licences were granted during the year. (E-07.28.08)
