‘Life’s about to get more exciting – you can bet on it’

VIRGIN BETS ON LINE

In the summer of 2004 Virgin Games was launched in West London with due fanfare. The mainstream site covers casino, poker, bingo and skill games and now Virgin Bets ‘a brand new betting site where you can have a punt on Big Brother or X Factor just as easily as you can bet on the Football or Wimbledon.’ Virgin Bets, launched with bookmakers Betfair, aims to capitalise on growing public interest in novelty bets and entertainment.

Virgin Games believes the market has huge potential, based on the fact that millions of people telephone and text votes on reality TV shows. The company, by teaming with Betfair, will be offering better betting odds than traditional bookmakers. Virgin Games CEO Simon Burridge commented, "Virgin Games is all about fun and entertainment, so novelty betting is a good fit for the brand.” Virgin Bets will start by covering entertainment, football, cricket, golf, greyhounds, rugby, tennis and motor sport. Horseracing is expected to be added later this year.

Promising to add some unusual fun bets to add some Virgin spice, players are invited to sign up. Virgin Games as a whole is concerned that gambling on any of its sites should be fun, and that problems with gambling do not arise. It uses software to stop underage users and points out that account numbers, usernames and passwords are kept away from young people. There is a direct link to the GamCare helpline. (E-05.24.07)
