Already approved at the State Assembly, lawmakers in the Senate Judiciary Committee are to consider making Nevada the first state to use wireless gambling in casinos. The measure would allow mobile gambling devices in public areas of casinos with a minimum 100 slot machines and at least one other game.
Wireless wagering would mean that a player could continue to gamble from the pool, restaurant and room. As technology keeps up its relentless drive towards new horizons, the lawmakers can only try to keep up with new developments. There are already several companies able to supply the Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) technology that could be used for ordering room-service or theatre tickets from the concierge, as well as for gambling purposes.
At the beginning of April Legal iGaming announced that they would deploy the first ever remote access gaming solution to the gaming industry. The technology was developed from the Multi-player slot machines as used in some tribal casinos, and the company claims that their advanced security system will allow for remote access connectivity to the casino floor. Diamond I also has a wireless gaming system, WifiCasino GS, designed for Las Vegas style casinos and resorts.
Assembly Bill No. 471, which authorizes the use of mobile communications devices, was unanimously approved by the Nevada Assembly at the end of April. If Nevada does legalize their use, then players will be able to carry around the devices and gamble anywhere on the casino premises. Technology marches on. (E-05.13.05)
