In its latest financial results report, Wynn Resorts Limited comments that its Macau casino project will open next month. The first phase in the development of the 16 acre site will provide 100,000 sq ft of gaming space, 600 hotel rooms and suites, 7 restaurants, a spa, meeting facilities and retail outlets which, compared to other Wynn projects, is a mere baby – only the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City was smaller when it opened. In terms of Macau developments, however, the Wynn Macau is a giant and so far the largest casino hotel built.
The contractors and construction crews are moving out so that the final touches can be made and staff training finalised. Already 3,500 employees are on the staff and will be joined by an additional 1,500 by the second week in August. 250 supervisors are training employees, ensuring that the Wynn style and ethic will grace the Macau property just as they do in other places. Several areas are now fully functional, including security and surveillance, information technology and the employee cafeteria.
On July 27th Wynn Resorts announced that Jack Binion of Horseshoe fame had been appointed Chairman of Wynn International, acting as the senior executive for the company’s Asian operations and development. By the end of this year discussions on a 54 acre site land concession on the Cotai Strip are expected to be completed. The second phase of the US$1.2 billion Wynn Macau, adding an additional 135,000 sq ft of gaming floor, another restaurant, theatre, more retail space and a dramatic front feature, is due to be opened by the end of 2007.
