The South African casino resort company Peermont, which designs, develops, manages, owns and operates integrated resorts, has nine properties in South Africa and five in Botswana. In March Peermont opens the doors to two new hotel developments – the R170 million Peermont Metcourt at Emperor’s Palace in Johannesburg and the R73.5 million Peermont Metcourt Rio in Klerksdorp. A third Peermont Metcourt hotel is planned for Richard’s Bay in 2010.
Energy efficiency measures have been incorporated in the new hotels for both cost control purposes and environmentally friendly principles. Designs that will save water and lighting/air conditioning consumption have been used throughout the properties. In Klerksdorp at the Rio hotel and casino resort the first convention centre for the area has been built. The company believes there is huge potential for the Peermont Metcourt hotel brand at business and leisure centres across South Africa.
Global Resorts was founded in 1985 and was re-branded as Peermont Global in 2003 and listed on the JSE Securities Exchange. In August 2006 the company acquired a controlling interest in the Tusk Hotels and Casino Resorts. In April 2007 Mineworkers Investment Company, a broad based BEE company, led a consortium that acquired Peermont Global and the company was delisted. (E-01.27.09)
