It was just five short years ago today that a new gaming industry website started to bring news and views to fellow professionals. At CasinoCompendium.com we’ve had our ups and downs, like most enterprises and the gambling world in particular, but things now run, hopefully, fairly smoothly. Ahead of the times in predicting the rapid development of gaming in the Spanish speaking world, we – and many others – failed to foresee the cessation of operations in the Russian speaking world.
In these five years the use of the Internet by both individuals and companies has changed out of recognition. Some gambling businesses were quicker than others at recognizing and utilising the power of dedicated websites to promote their products but just five years ago it was not uncommon to find company websites ‘under construction’ or somewhat muddled and non user-friendly.
It could be said that it’s all swings and roundabouts – or slots and roulette wheels – in the gaming world. Our first day’s English copy, on Thursday 26 August 2004, covered the ever topical Mexico – even then a waiting game for prospective investors wanting to open legal casinos – the second day of the second Peru Gaming Show (which opens tomorrow for its 2009 event) and the launch of a new online gaming operation, Virgin Games, at an event in West London. The Spanish version was similar but with the addition of an article on one gaming law for all Spain.
With the death of the gaming industry in her country our Russian editor has moved to fresher pastures but is graciously to hand for consultation and advice with regards to any future developments. The brains behind the CasinoCompendium venture, Ricki Chavez-Munoz, makes time in a busy schedule to add his occasional and often humorous take on life in gaming, while the rest of us, in the US, UK and Latin America, try to keep tabs on the vagaries, virtues and vicissitudes of the modern gaming world. Here’s to the next five years! (E-08.26.09)
