This morning the house building and construction group Galliford Try plc announced it has been selected as preferred bidder by Genting UK for Resorts World at The NEC, a major new leisure and casino entertainment development to be located at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham. Resorts World at The NEC complex will include a casino, a 4-star hotel and suites, a spa, conference and banqueting facilities, a retail outlet centre, a multi-screen cinema, food and beverage outlets and car parking.
The contract will be valued at £80 million and the scheme is set to start on site during the first quarter of 2012 with completion expected during the first quarter of March 2014. In June this year Solihull Council selected Genting Casinos UK for the large casino licence permitted under the Gambling Act 2005. Rank’s Grosvenor Casino had been the other bidder for the licence.

In its application, Genting Casinos UK stated that its development would provide over 1,700 construction jobs as well as employ an estimated 1,000 people in direct and indirect jobs.
Commenting on its successful bid for the construction of the new complex, Galliford Try Chief Executive Greg Fitzgerald said: “We are delighted to be selected as preferred bidder by Genting UK for what will be one of the most significant leisure and entertainment developments to be built in the UK in recent years.
