Gross terminal revenue at Pennsylvania’s ten casinos in August 2011 was 1.29% higher than that generated in August 2010. However, of the nine casinos operating in both August 2010 and August 2011, gross terminal revenue was actually down by 5.9%. The effects of Hurricane Irene, which closed one casino and forced another to scale back operations over the usually busy last weekend of August, impacted on final revenue figures for the month.
Harrah’s Chester Casino and Racetrack, Presque Isle Downs and Casino and Parx Casino saw the biggest revenue decline, down 17.86%, 12.26% and 9.70% respectively. In comparison, Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs was up 8% and Rivers Casino up 6.50%. The average number of operating slot machines throughout Pennsylvania at the 10 casinos was 26,327 in August 2011 up from 25,051 at nine casinos in August 2010.
