Half the new casinos are out of action

Only 8 new casinos operational in Chile

The massive earthquake in Chile has paralyzed operations at half the new casinos in Chile, with only seven of the fifteen open last weekend. Severe damage has been caused to some of the casinos. Gaming machine glass is in pieces, tables broken and walls and floors have been soaked by the sprinkler systems activated when the earthquake struck.

The Gaming Commission (SCJ) has announced that the casinos that will not be operating for the foreseeable future are: Casino de Juegos del Pacífico (San Antonio), Casino de Juegos de Rinconada, Monticello Grand Casino, Gran Casino de Talca, Casino Termas de Chillán, Marina del Sol (Talcahuano) and Casino Gran Los Ángeles.

The SCJ further announced that the legal obligation to open every day of the year has been suspended and gave

instructions that all orders and measures issued by the National Defence departments of each affected región be followed. According to the SCJ, "The casinos are in the process of evaluating the structural damage that has ocurred at their properties, and beginning the necessary clear-up. For this reason there is no estimated date for re-opening the casinos affected.”
