Reports from Singapore suggest a solid opening for the casino at Resorts World Sentosa but a lack of gaming tables a cause of irritation to players. It was originally speculated that Genting would open with 500 tables but actually have commenced operations with 270. Lack of trained gaming personnel seems to be the reason behind the decision and some of the dealers at the tables have shown their inexperience.
The Chinese New Year may have added to those visiting the casino but so far the numbers are holding up. An average of 20,000 to 25,000 customers a day are entering the casino in the Crockfords Tower. More staff are being recruited and trained but arriving at the target of 530 gaming tables is now expected to take up to six months. Consequently, any advantage acquired by Genting by being the first of the two Singapore casinos to open could be short lived.

For some analysts the numbers visiting the casino are disappointing. A Hong Kong-based analyst with Citigroup says a minimum 34,000 daily visitors are needed, each spending at least $100. However, when the Universal Studios theme park opens it should attract more people to the resort. Genting says it remains confident that Resorts World Sentosa will welcome 13 million visitors in its first year of operation. (E-02.24.10)
