16% table game tax results in US$8.3 million revenue for state

September figures released by PGCB

 

Yesterday the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board released the table games revenue for September. With an average of 930 tables in operation daily throughout September, gross revenue was US$51,390,966, generating nearly US$8.3 million in tax revenue. Gross revenue was up over US$14.5 million from September 2010 but SugarHouse Casino only opened on 23 September 2010 and consequently made only a fraction of the money it made last month.

Two of Pennsylvania’s ten casinos, Mount Airy Casino Resort and Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, have not increased their table numbers since September 2010. Both have seen a reduction in gross revenue. Presque Isle Downs and Casino, which has reduced its table games from 48 to 44, has also seen revenue decline. The other seven casinos now operate more tables than in September 2010 and have increased gross revenue.

15,000 people and legalized slot machine and table gaming has generated $5.4 billion in tax and license fee revenue since the first casino opened in November 2006. A portion of that money is enabling property tax reduction for all Pennsylvania homeowners, providing needed funding to the Commonwealth’s horse racing industry, funding grants for fire companies and water/sewer projects, and establishing a new stream of tax revenue to local governments for community projects.
